Why did people Latinize their names?
The Latinisation of names in the vernacular was a procedure deemed necessary for the sake of conformity by scribes and authors when incorporating references to such persons in Latin texts. The procedure was used in the era of the Roman Republic and Empire.

Is it Latin name or scientific name?
Because of the diverse origins of these words, while many biologists will speak of the "Latin name" of an organism, it is more appropriate to speak of the scientific name of an organism, rather than its Latin name.
