What is difference between Latin and Greek?
— Greek is a living language, whereas Latin is regarded as a “dead” or extinct language. Even though Greek originated thousands and thousands of years ago, unlike Latin, it is still spoken nowadays in Greece, Cyprus and some other countries, still evolving and developing over time.
How are Greek and Latin related?
Latin and Greek did not split from each other. They both evolved from a common ancestor that we call Proto-Indo-European. So Latin and Greek are basically cousins, and not twins.
Is Greek alphabet Latin?
Many of the letters remained in Modern Greek, including Alpha, Beta, Delta, and even Omicron, despite first appearing more than 2,500 years ago. Soon the Greek alphabet (and much of its culture) was borrowed into Latin, with Archaic Latin script appearing circa 500 BCE.
Is Greek based off Latin?
Please notice that Greek, Latin, and English all belong to different language subfamilies. This means, in effect, that Greek vocabulary did not evolve into Latin, nor did Latin evolve into English.
