Difference between lux and lumens

The concepts of lux and lumen are closely related. While lumens measure the amount of light emitted by a source, luxes determine the same amount of light, but are projected onto a surface. Therefore, one lux is equivalent to one lumen per square meter.

How many lumens is a lux?

One lux (1 lux) of light is a measure of the light density, equivalent to 1 lumen per square metre (lm / m^2).

Which is better lumens or lux?

Lumens values do not equal the perceived light quality as it's entirely possible for a single light emitter to have a high Lumens value and yet not look very bright. LUX on the other hand measures the LIGHT INTENSITY which takes the area into account.

How many lux is 2000 lumens?

Lux can be measured using a lux meter. If you use a Suprabeam Q7xrs with 2000 lumen to light up a wall 2 meters away, there will be 440 lux on the wall if you use the wide 70° flood beam, but 9301 lux if you use the Hyperfocus to focus the beam into a 15° spot beam.

What is 500 lux in lumens?

A 500 Lumen light source illuminates 1 square meter with 500 Lux.

Is 5000 lux the same as 5000 lumens?

One lux is equal to one lumen per square meter. It enables us to measure the total “amount” of visible light present and the intensity of the illumination on a surface. We use lux because it is an efficient measurement for determining what we see as the brightness of a beam.

Is 10000 lux the same as 10000 lumens?

Lux is all about exposure rates. However, to answer a question often asked on the topic, 10,000 lux is equivalent to one lumen when a surface area of a one-meter square is hit perpendicularly by a light source.

Is 1000 lux too bright?

Earlier it was common with light levels in the range 100 - 300 lux for normal activities. Today the light level is more common in the range 500 - 1000 lux - depending on activity. For precision and detailed works the light level may even approach 1500 - 2000 lux.

Is 500 lux too bright?

500 lux – Retail spaces should have this as a minimum light level, as should general office spaces. This level should be suitable for prolonged work on computers, machinery and reading. More than 500 lux – If you have an area where intricate work is being carried out, then very high lux values may be needed.

Is 1000 lumens too bright?

A 1000 lumen flashlight is bright enough to let you see items at a far distance as most of these flashlights feature reflectors or lenses to focus the light into having a range of 150-200 meters depending on their design.

How bright is 9000 lumens?

This powerful light has a considerably higher lumen output than most traditional flashlights and can throw light extremely far distances. On its highest 9000 lumen mode, the beam can reach a maximum of 938 feet (286 meters).

Is 5000 lumens very bright?

A 5000-lumen LED bulb is a very bright light source, and if you are using it in a relatively small room, it can be very harsh. In this case, it is recommended that you use a 1000-lumen LED bulb. Under normal circumstances, garages, utility rooms, and warehouses are more suitable for 5000-lumen bulbs.

How bright is 50000 lux?

100,000 Lux is roughly equivalent to the level of sunlight on a sunny day. So 50,000 lux would be a not so sunny overcast day. But bright sunlight alone does not always produce good images.

Is 10000 lux a lot?

10,000 lux is the recommended amount for effective light therapy. For most HappyLight models, you will receive 10,000 lux if you sit in front of the lamp at a distance of no more than 24 inches for 30 minutes.

Is 4000 lumens very bright?

A level between 4,000 and 8,000 lumens is ideal. This is a wide spread so you can choose the amount that is right for your bathroom size.

How many lux is a 100 watt light bulb?

To replace a 100 watt (W) incandescent bulb, look for a bulb that gives you about 1600 lumens.

How bright is 1 lux?

To put this into perspective, 1 lux is the accepted amount of light needed for a person with 20:20 vision to be able to read a newspaper. So you'll be able to read the paper a kilometre down the road, if that's what you fancy .

What is the value of 1 lux?

One lux is equal to one lumen per square metre: 1 lx = 1 lm/m2 = 1 cd·sr/m2. A flux of 1000 lumens, spread uniformly over an area of 1 square metre, lights up that square metre with an illuminance of 1000 lux.

How many lux is a 100 watt light bulb?

To replace a 100 watt (W) incandescent bulb, look for a bulb that gives you about 1600 lumens.

Is 500 lux too bright?

More than 500 lux – If you have an area where intricate work is being carried out, then very high lux values may be needed.

How much light is 200 lux?

For example, an illuminance level of 200 lux (20 footcandles) is good level of brightness for a kitchen or living room installation at 3000K. If, however, you were interested in a higher color temperature such as 5000K or higher, an illuminance level of 200 lux would appear unnaturally blue, dull and unpleasant.

How bright is 50000 lux?

100,000 Lux is roughly equivalent to the level of sunlight on a sunny day. So 50,000 lux would be a not so sunny overcast day. But bright sunlight alone does not always produce good images.

Is 800 lumens too bright?

For most applications,LED bulbs with lumen ratings of between 800 and 1,100 lumens are fine. A 60 watt incandescent bulb gives off 800 lumens, while a 75 watt incandescent gives off 1,100 lumens.

How much light is 4000 lumens?

For example, a 100-square foot living room, which needs 20 foot candles, will need 2,000 lumens. A 100-square foot dining room, which needs 40 foot-candles, will need 4,000 lumens.

How much is 10 lux?

A foot-candle equals one lumen per square foot. This is a British measurement. Using the metric system, a lumen is measured by a square meter or a lux. Thus a foot-candle is equivalent to approximately 10 lux or 10.57 lux.

What is 400 lux light intensity?

400 lux – Sunrise or sunset on a clear day. 1000 lux – Overcast day; typical TV studio lighting. 10000–25000 lux – Full daylight (not direct sun). 32000–100000 lux – Direct sunlight.
